Spoiler Alert!
After finishing the TV series, I found this movie a bit lacking because it wasn’t quite gothic or gay enough lol. But,I really like this film's aesthetic. I loved that scene where Claudia and Madeleine were waiting for Louis to come home, dressed in beautiful gowns. it looked just like a Renaissance painting and was absolutely stunning.
The chef who took "Eat the rich " seriouslly. The satire of the wealthy's pretentiousness and excessive absurdity was funny and made me laugh. It was obviously depict the unequal society , but it was not too serious, light to watch with a dark humor. Ralph Fiennes has a great presence as always. This film made me really want to have a cheese burger, so I orderd it by Ubereats. It was so delicious!
At first I thought it was a serious period drama, but the moment vampires appeared, it suddenly turned into a cheesy horror movie (but awesome!) It was so funny. I like this unexpecting shift. The scene where everyone dances to blues music felt like a visual representation of music transcending boundaries like the future, the past, and culture. It's the thing only film can do. I was like, from rappers to African tribes to Chinese Peking Opera!? I love this multiverse-like storytelling technique that's becoming more common in recent films. The concept of the vampire being Irish was also incredibly interesting. Unlike the KKK or WASPs, while both are white, Irish white people are a group that has faced discrimination in American society. Plus, it's interesting that Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, was also of Irish descen! There’s also the idea that vampires originally came from fear of immigrants. In other words, the combination of vampires and racial tension, while seemingly outlandish at first glance, actually it is pretty meaningful."
